How to turn your vanity into a makeup station

Much like clawfoot tubs and bathroom faucets, a vanity is essential to your bathroom. It’s the perfect organizational spot and creates a focal point in the space. Having a vanity in which to store your makeup essentials can help speed up your morning routine by making everything much more conveniently accessible. Check out these tips for transforming your vanity into the perfect cosmetics station:

Place near natural light
It can be hard to apply makeup under a harsh overhead light. If you can, place your vanity near a bathroom window, where you will get plenty of natural light that’s great for applying makeup and grooming. Place layers of light around your vanity mirror for when it’s dark outside. Accent and task lighting can illuminate the bathroom, producing a soft glow.

Have cleaning tools nearby
It’s important to regularly clean your makeup brushes to keep your complexion free of bacteria and unwanted impurities. Glam up your cleaning station by filling an old perfume bottle with some cleaning spray. Simply spritz down your brushes after each use, wipe off the excess and store them in mason jars.

Display everyday makeup on a tray
While drawers are a great space for keeping makeup, not everything has to be cluttered into one drawer. Contribute to your vintage bathroom design by placing a silver antique tray on top of your vanity. You can fill it with cosmetics that you use every day, such as blush, foundation, concealer and mascara. You can even separate your tray into categories like skincare, hair products and makeup.

Frequently organize your cosmetics station
About every six months, you should go through your vanity and clear out products that are old or that you no longer use. This way, you can make room for other cosmetics and keep your space looking clean and organized.
