One of the greatest joys in our daily lives is getting home after a long day’s work, and being able to jump in the shower washing away all that built-up stress. Having a showerhead that gives you a vigorous showering experience is the key to achieving that goal.

Water pressure is essential to a great shower, but what can you do if you’re not getting enough water?

Check to see if you are getting enough water to your bathroom by opening the valve and checking the flow of water at your tub spout and your lavatory faucets.

If you do have good water flow at both of those points, then the most likely culprit is a clogged showerhead.

Remove the showerhead.

You can most likely loosen it by hand but if you need to use pliers, make sure to wrap a washcloth around the threads of the showerhead to prevent any damage to it.

Once the showerhead has been removed, turn on the shower valve to fully open and check the water flow to the shower arm. This will eliminate the possibility that you may have some blockage on the pipe going to the showerhead.

Check the inlet to the showerhead for any debris that may have accumulated at that point.

Then soak it in a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar for a few hours or overnight if possible.

Rinse and using an old toothbrush, clean the face of the showerhead and rinse it under running water.

If you still notice any mineral deposit buildup, you may need to soak it in a calcium-removing solution such as CLR®.

Clean the threads on the shower arm.

Apply Teflon and thread the showerhead.

Turn the shower valve to the fully open position. If you are still not satisfied with the flow on your showerhead, then it might be time to consider replacing the showerhead.
