Every now and then something in your home will break and you’ll need to repair or replace it yourself. But don’t worry! It’s simple to do with a bit of know-how. Here are some tips for completing five fix it yourself projects:

1. Squeaky floor
If your floor is a bit squeaky, there is a simple remedy for the problem. Just sprinkle talcum powder over the noisy area and use a broom to sweep it into the cracks. Then your floors should be squeak free.

2. Broken faucet
If your kitchen faucet has seen better days, it might be time to replace the unit. Don’t shell out a ton of money to have someone else come in and fix it. Fix it yourself! If you have a vintage kitchen design, there are plenty options from which you can choose. For example, you might want to select a wall-mounted style. These often have knob handles with an Old World charm. Before replacing the faucet, turn off the water source. Then remove the old fixture with simple tools you most likely already have in your home, like wrenches and pliers. When you install the new unit be sure to use caulk so the faucet is secure and there isn’t any leakage.

3. Stained tub
If you have an old tub and it is stained, you can use cream of tartar and baking soda with a few drops of lemon juice to create a paste. Rub the mixture into the problem area, let it sit for 30 minutes, and most of the marks should come off after a quick wipe. However, sometimes you just can’t get the stains out, and when that happens it’s time for a new bathtub. If you are in the market for a tub, consider purchasing a freestanding model like a clawfoot tub or contemporary style unit.

4. Cloudy vases
If your vases have been used too much and are looking cloudy, you can add a mixture to them so they will become clean and shiny again. Just fill up each one halfway with hot water, then add a few drops of liquid dishwashing soap along with 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and a cup of uncooked rice. Then all it will take is a few swirls of each vase for them to become clean again.

5. Streaky floor
If your linoleum bathroom or kitchen floor has some scuff marks, they can be easily removed. All you have to do is use an abrasive toothpaste on each spot and rub it in until the streak disappears. Next use dishwashing soap to remove any leftover greasy residue.

Completing Fix it Yourself projects can really save some money in the long run, but be sure to do your homework! Research different ways to fix broken items in your home and follow instructions carefully for the best results.
