Plants are a great way to add life, quite literally, into a room. However, when using plants as decor in a bathroom, we start to encounter problems since most bathrooms don’t have a lot of sunlight coming through. Even so, you’ll find that there are plants that can adapt to different environmental situations with some research. Below are just some of the many plant options optimal for a bathroom.

Philodendron hederaceum

One of the easiest plants to take care of, heartleaf philodendrons are very accepting of most environments and make great plants for your bathroom. They can be grown in either water or dry soil and thrive in almost any light setting except for indirect light. However, those with more diversity of colors white or yellow flecks on their leaves require more light.

Pros:

  • easy to propagate
  • accepts most growing environments

Cons:

  • mildly toxic to cats, dogs, and children if ingested

Earning its name from its appearance, the string of pearls plant is a succulent. Like most succulents, it does best in direct sunlight. As such, this plant would do wonderfully if your bathroom had a windowsill where it can perch and drape its cute “string of pearls.” However, if you live in a location that does not have a lot of sun, the string of pearls can also survive under a fluorescent light during the day.

Pros:

  • easy to propagate
  • doesn’t need to be watered often
  • unique foliage
  • may bloom flowers

Cons:

  • requires at least medium-light
  • mildly toxic to cats, dogs, and children if ingested

Incredibly flexible plants, almost all varieties of ferns are low-light tolerant since they can survive in a broad range of light conditions like the philodendron plant.
