How to work prints into your kitchen design

Kitchens are often filled with solid colors. Most people choose a wood finish for the cabinets, and the walls tend to range from white to gray. But if you really want to pump up the volume in your kitchen, work prints into the design. Patterns show off an individual’s personality, so think about the motifs you would most like to see in your vintage kitchen design.

Animal
A large-format print helps make your room look bigger. So if you only have a small about of wall showing in your kitchen, opt for a large, repeating pattern. For example, a deconstructed zebra print could help make your room look exotic.

Floral
If you miss the springtime, work some of those patterns into your interior design. You can select curtains in yellow, green and pink to bring the feel of a garden inside. Additionally, floral flatware is an unexpected surprise when you have a dinner party, so look for vibrant styles you can use as chargers.

Geometric
Have you ever considered repurposing your cabinetry? If so, instead of painting your cabinets, cover them in a fun wall paper. A geometric print is a unique choice that will help showcase your eclectic vibe. If you don’t want such a dramatic touch, use the wallpaper to decorate the inside of the cabinets.

Abstract
An abstract art pattern is a great way to bring prints into your kitchen. You can find fabric with a colorful motif and use it to repurpose the seats on your chairs. Or, if you have bay window seating, use the print pillowcases for a plush cushion.

Stripes
Don’t forget about your backsplash tiles! Be creative with the placement of your tiles to make a fun pattern. For example, add a row of white glass tiles, then alternate with a row of navy blue ones. Repeat this until you are done.

Other prints
Chevron – Chevron is a very trendy print. It looks best in colorful hues like bright blue, green or orange. Consider this fun pattern when selecting pillows, curtains, seating upholstery fabric and your kitchen towels.

Herringbone – This next pattern is often seen in fashion. However, you can work the print into your kitchen decor as well. Herringbone drapes add a subtle texture to the room, so consider installing them over your windows. Or you can add pillows in this pattern on top of your kitchen seating.
