Creating a Baking-Centered Kitchen
If you love to whip up everything from pies and cookies to cakes and muffins, it’s important that you have a kitchen design that enhances your productivity. The layout of the space should make your baking experience as productive and enjoyable as possible. So if you’re an avid baker, consider any of these baking-focused design ideas:
Baking can tend to get a little messy, with flour and sugar all over your hands. When you turn on the faucet to rinse off your hands, all of that sticky residue tends to end up on your faucet. Instead, opt for a hands-free faucet where you can simply put your hands underneath the fixture and it turns on all by itself. This helps to keep your kitchen clean as you bake. If you have a vintage kitchen design, look for an antique finish for your sink fixtures, like nickel, bronze or pewter.
Keep it Together
Instead of having to run all over the kitchen to gather your supplies, designate one or two cabinets to store everything that you need. This way, you’ll find all that you’re looking for in one spot. Store everything from mixers and bowls to common baking ingredients like sugar, flour, extracts, baking soda and baking powder.
Opt for marble
The surface on which you’re baking can make or break your experience. Marble is the perfect countertop material for baking because it can be easily wiped off after creating a mess. It’s also extremely smooth, offering the perfect area to roll out lots of pastry dough.
Light it up
You have to be able to measure precisely for the perfect baked goods. This requires a good amount of light. If your kitchen doesn’t offer much in the way of natural light, make sure that you have a combination of ambient and task lighting to brighten up the space without providing too harsh of a glow.
