Home bars are the perfect addition to a kitchen upgrade project. They house all your spirits, mixers and cocktail-making tools in one place. If you love to throw dinner parties or have guests over for wine and craft drinks, you’ll want an organized setup to make things easier.

Here is how to add a bar to your modern or vintage kitchen design:

Faucet
Recent trends call for bars to have faucets and sinks. No matter if your bar is in the basement or directly connected to your kitchen, a water is source is needed to wash glasses and utensils. The range of faucets you can choose from are seemingly endless. You can pick one specifically designed for the space or get creative and opt for a vintage style.

Bar – These fixtures are usually streamlined and modern. They have tall swooping spouts and single or double water handles. Pick one in polished chrome for a classic choice. However, they are available in a range of finishes. Technology-driven faucets do away with the handle and simply need a light tap to turn them on or off.

Kitchen – You can find similar faucets designed for the kitchen. You might like a model with a detachable water sprayer. This comes in handy when you need to rinse glasses in a hurry.

Pre-rinse faucet – Chefs often opt for these industrial-inspired faucets. This type of faucet has a tall arched spout, but really it’s a pull-down faucet that serves double duty. This fixture is available in a range of colors including a mix between oil-rubbed bronze and polished chrome.

Sink
Bar sinks are often smaller than their kitchen counterparts. For a simple setup, choose a single bowl model with a stainless steel construction. If you use lots of fruit in your cocktails you may want to install a garbage disposal underneath.

Other design choices
There are tons of additional choices for your home bar that depend on how elaborate a setup you would like to create.

Small – Simple bars can be placed in a variety of areas. You can carve out a nook in the corner of your kitchen to install your sink or faucet. Or you can add a decorative dresser or table to one of your most-used rooms in the home. However, just make sure your plumber can reroute a water source to that area. Then add the necessary fixtures like shelving and a cooler.
Place your glassware in the overhead storage and your spirit bottles directly on the counter. Add pull-out shelves for utensils and mixing tools.

Large – If you are planning a professional quality bar, you might want to build it in the basement like many homeowners. You can install a traditional bar counter with stool seating. In the back add shelving to display your collection of liquor bottles. Be sure to have a cooler for your juice and soda. Additionally, you may want to add lattice shelving for wine bottles.
