What is the Transitional Interior Design Style?

As the contemporary style grew in popularity, the transitional design style offered a more traditionally elegant alternative style. Basically, the transitional interior design is a design style between traditional and modern styles. It keeps the timeless sophistication from traditional styles while avoiding the overly elaborate detailing of the style. Simultaneously, it keeps the comforts and sports the clean silhouettes found in modern styles.

The Transitional Style Has

  • Soft, muted tones
  • Neutral colors and or Blue Hues
  • A balanced combination of textures
  • A comfortable but sophisticated feel
  • A blended style look
  • A quality over quantity look

Transitional Bathroom Tips

1. Mix Styles to Create Your Unique Style

The interesting point of the transitional style is that it is a hybrid of two styles. Because it is a blend of styles in the first place, it can easily compromise even more differing styles.

As such, the transitional style is a great design style for those couples with different design tastes.

Other styles we would recommend mixing are the coastal and farmhouse styles.

2. Keep Things Clean and Minimal

If you can avoid clutter, then we would recommend it for this style. Keeping your space clean and devoid of too many objects will help project the relaxing, comfortable feeling that a transitional space strives for.

In addition to keeping clean, Transitional Styles do not utilize many accessories or decor pieces. The few select pieces that are usually included are meaningful and or used as a statement piece.

3. Mix Textures and Materials

Textures can really help elevate the look of a room without having to buy elaborate, detailed traditional furniture. For this reason, textures are very helpful in achieving a transitional look where you want traditional elegance but in a simpler way.

Similarly, pairing luxurious materials with more humble materials is another way to achieve the transitional look.
