If you’ve been looking at your kitchen and thinking that it could possibly use a fresh coat of paint, new cabinets, nicer countertops or more interesting fixtures, a remodel could be in your future.

Once you figure out your budget, what sort of style or theme you’d like to go for whether you prefer vintage, modern, minimalist or country. And if you’re updating or doing a total gut job, you can consider some of these top kitchen design trends to include in your new space:

Bold Fixtures
If you’re tired of looking at your lackluster fixtures each time you enter the kitchen, take a tip from HGTV and opt for something bold to add a little drama to the room. Oil rubbed bronze kitchen faucets create a unique look, especially if it’s wall mounted. Non-traditional sinks are another way to make a bold splash whether they’re in a funky color or in the style of a large farmhouse sink. The source pointed out that apron-front sinks are classic.

“Apron-front sinks have never gone out of style,” interior designer Christine Baumann, told HGTV. “They add a timeless focal point to any kitchen. From a practical standpoint, they’re deep enough to hold large pots and platters for easier cleanup – a shorter person can even benefit from better access to the sink.”

Maximize storage
Whether you live in a small apartment or a sprawling country home, there always seems to be an issue of not enough storage space in the kitchen. A popular trend lately is to maximize the space in this room by thinking outside of the box. It’s always a good idea to give each kitchen item a home, from small appliances to cookware, utensils and even non-perishable foods. Consider pull-out spice racks for that small space between a fridge and a cabinet, multi-tiered drawers and open-faced shelving unit in addition to cabinets.

Save versus splurge
It’s no secret that kitchen renovations can become costly, but that doesn’t mean that you have to splurge on everything. Be strategic about where you’re OK with spending a little extra and where you don’t mind choosing something more budget-friendly. For example, granite counters are beautiful but nowadays laminate counters are made to look just like granite for a fraction of the cost. Another trend is to mix and match materials, so if you love the granite, you can use it for part of the counters and finish them off with a cool butcher block slab that’s stylish and functional. You may also be leaning toward stainless steel appliances, but if black ones will suit your style and won’t have the same large price tag, go for it!

Be sustainable
Eco-friendliness continues to be a trend when it comes to home design, and there are plenty of ways to incorporate this into your kitchen. Bamboo cabinets and floors or recycled glass countertops are great options. You can also choose Energy-star appliances that help you save money on bills and reduce the amount of fuel needed to power them.
