A Guide to Incorporating the Ombre Trend in Your Bathroom

Ombre has been a popular trend in the way of hairstyles, fashion and wedding cakes, but it’s also making its way into interior design. If you’re not familiar with ombre, it’s essentially color fading from dark to light or light to dark. Ombre is a French word meaning “shaded.” It originated in Europe and can be seen on everything from pre-Civil War quilts to furniture, textiles and Victorian-era ribbons.

Ombre is a great choice if you can’t decide on a color for your bathroom and can look wonderful in any other room in your home as well. The color design would pair perfectly against white cast iron tubs and bring just enough brightness into the space.

Decide How Bold You Would Like To Be
If you’re not sure how much of the color gradient you would like in your bathroom, you can start small with something simple and understated, like a rug, lampshade or wall art. You can also choose a subtle color, like a gray or brown shade. But if you want a dramatic interior design in your bathroom, you might choose to paint an accent wall in the ombre pattern.

Less is More
Pick only one part of your bathroom to incorporate ombre. Less is more when it comes to this trend. If you use it on the floors, on the walls, and on your decor, it can become a bit overwhelming.

Ways to Incorporate Ombre
Ombre certainly isn’t limited to your bathroom’s walls. Here are a few ways you can demonstrate the trend while bringing color into your space:

  • Shower Curtain
Draw attention to your shower with a curtain that displays the different tones of one color. And if you’re looking for a DIY project, you can make your own ombre shower curtain using liquid dye in the shade of your choice. If you don’t have a shower and instead opted for a freestanding tub, you can install ombre curtains around the windows for privacy.
  • Linens
Ombre bath and hand towels can be hung in your bathroom for the perfect accent of bold color. If you do go this route, make sure your bathroom’s walls are in a muted color like white or gray to help the linens really stand out.
  • Backsplash
If you’re searching for a more permanent way to incorporate it into your bathroom design, you can do so using a tiled backsplash. Select a range of tiles in that same color family. When installing the tiles, fade from dark to light or light to dark for a beautiful focal point.
  • Vanity
This trend can be showcased in your furniture as well. You can paint your vanity so that each drawer is a different shade of one color.
